Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to captain Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018. The right arm cricketer is going to retain his skipper’s position in the team for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. His CSK teammate Suresh Raina will be holding the vice-captain’s position in the team.
Following the retention policy, Chennai Super Kings will not put the names of MS Dhoni, Suresh Rain and Ravindra Jadeja in auction list. The franchise has decided to retain these players in the team. While interacting with media, Raina revealed that he would be bagging vice-captain’s post in the team and Dhoni would be leading the team.
The 31 year old cricket player told that he is expecting that his team will have good players for this season of IPL. He further added that famous spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and batsman Murli Vijay are not in the list of retained players. Names of these cricketers will be mentioned in the list of IPL 2018 auction which is going to be held on 27 and 28 January at Bangalore.
Chennai Super Kings is about to make comeback into the league after two years. After finding some players allegedly involved in spot-fixing, BCCI had banned the team for two years. Though the team was not allowed to play the league in years 2016 and 2017, players in those team were picked up by newly introduced teams – Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiants in previous two seasons of Vivo IPL. On other side, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja were the part of team ‘Gujarat Lions’. Under the captaincy of Raina, Gujarat Lions won maximum matches in 9th season of IPL and bagged top position in the points table.
Led by MS Dhoni, Rising Pune Supergiants showcased surprising performance in tenth season of IPL. Winning maximum matches in league stage and conquering the playoffs, the team successfully reached into the final. However, Rising Pune Supergiants could not win the final match and faced defeat against Mumbai Indians at the last moment of the game.
