Led by former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricketer Travis Head, Adelaide Strikers registered victory the final match of Big Bash League 2018. Playing against Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide Strikers scored 202 runs and the antagonist team failed to chase the target of 203 runs.
After winning the toss, Adelaide Strikers opted to bat first. The decision was taken by none other than Travis Head who led the team throughout the league. Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey stepped into the field to open the first inning. The two opener batsmen did not play risky shots while scoring runs in initial overs.
Scoring 18 runs off 16 balls, Carey lost his wicket in 5th over of the match. Skipper Travis Head replaced him as the player to bat next and accompanied his teammate Jake Weatherald in scoring runs for the team. Partnership between the two cricketers took the total score beyond triple digit runs.
Hitting 8 sixes and 9 fours, Weatherald scored 115 runs in 70 balls. Weatherald played crucial role in fostering the overall net run rate of the team in this game. Travis Head performed well at the other end of strike and scored 44 runs off 29 balls. Weatherald lost his wicket in 19th over and Colin Ingram came to bat next. Ingram hit 1 six and 1 four to score 14 runs in 6 balls.
Adelaide Strikers scored 202 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. Hobart Hurricanes’ Jofra Archer and Daniel Christian picked up one wicket each while rest of the bowlers went wicketless in the opening inning. The team had a dull start while chasing the humongous target of 203 runs.
Opener batsman Tim Paine in the initial over of the 2nd inning. Travis Head was the man who took the wicket of Paine in very first over. George Bailey came to bat next and accompanied D Archy Short, the 2nd opener batsman of team Hobart Hurricanes. Both players rendered pivotal role in taking the team’s overall score beyond 100 runs.
Hitting 4 sixes and 5 fours, D Archy Short scored 68 runs in 44 balls. Bailey hit 2 sixes and 2 fours to score 46 runs in 33 balls. After the two players lost their wickets in consecutive overs, no cricketer in the middle of order of batting lineup managed to add more runs individually.
Except Daniel Christian, who scored 29 runs in 19 balls, rest all cricketers failed to perform well in the end. Strikers’ Peter Siddle picked up 3 wickets while captain Travis Head took one wicket. All other bowlers in the team could not pick up any wicket in the match. Jake Weatherald bagged ‘Player of the Match’ award for his excellent performance in the game.
