Dale Steyn, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League, made vital contribution in the victory of his team ‘Titans’ in 21st match of CSA T20 Challenge. The right arm South-African bowler picked up two wickets and helped his team in preventing the batsmen of opponent team from scoring maximum runs. Captained by Albie Morkel, team ‘Titans’ defeated opponent team ‘Knights’ in the T20 cricket match which was played on 3rd December this year.
After winning the toss, Knights opted to bat first. Opener batsmen of the team could not give a better start to their batting inning. Rudi Second and Keegan Petersen arrived in the field as opener batsmen. Rudi Second scored 2 runs in 2 balls while his partner Petersen scored 5 runs in 5 balls.
Team’s skipper Theunis de Bruyn and David Miller were the men to bat next after the dismissal of openers. Bruyn could not perform well in this game and walked back to pavilion after scoring 5 runs in 14 balls. Left handed David Miller was strong at the other end of strike. He played major role in taking the team’s total score beyond triple digit figure.
With a strike rate of 126.47, Miller scored 43 runs. The South-African cricketer hit 6 fours while scoring those runs. After Bruyn’s dismissal in 9th over of the match, Ryan McLaren replaced him as the next batsman. McLaren accompanied Miller in cementing a strong base for the team’s overall score.
Partnership between Miller and McLaren boosted the total score of their team to next level. McLaren scored 21 runs in 21 balls and lost his wicket in 15th over. Meanwhile, Miller also returned to pavilion after scoring 43 runs. Grant Mokoena and Shadley van Schalkwyk were the next batsmen who scored 31 runs in 16 runs, respectively.
First inning ended with Knights scoring 133 runs in 20 overs. The team lost its 7 wickets while setting up the target of 134 runs for the rival team. Tabraiz Shamsi and Dale Steyn picked up two wickets each. Taking one wicket each, Malusi Siboto and Junior Dala rendered significant role in ruining the batting lineup of antagonist team.
Titans started the run-chase with an unsatisfactory performance. Opener batsmen Quinton de Kock and Tony de Zorzi could not score huge runs for the team. Left handed Quinton de Kock scored 17 runs in 18 balls while Zorzi returned to pavilion without scoring single run.
Next batsmen Henry Davids and Aiden Markram also failed to score the required runs for their team. After scoring 7 runs in 13 balls, Davids lost his wicket in 6th over of the match. His companion Markram scored 8 runs in 18 balls and walked back to the pavilion in 11th over of the match.
Farhaan Behardien and skipper Albie Morkel, who used to play for IPL team CSK, entered the field to bat next. The duo performed superbly in the end phase of the match and turned the match results to their side. Hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours, Behardien scored 56 runs in 29 balls. Left handed Morkel hit 2 fours and 2 sixes to score 27 runs in 20 balls.
After Morkel lost his wicket in 16th over, Chris Morris came to bat next and accompanied Behardien till the end of the game. Smashing 2 sixes, Morris scored 17 runs in 10 balls. The two cricketers remained not out till the end and made their team win the match. Farhaan Behardien received ‘Player of the Match’ award for his speedy performance.
