Basil Thampi is an Indian cricketer from Ernakulam, Kerala. The right-handed Tasman and baler were born on 11 September 1993. Thampi is popular for his right-handed fast bowling at speeds of 140 kmph+.
Thampi is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium pace bowler. He was recruited by the IPL team-Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 and since then he has been a part of the multi-billion dollar IPL franchise as a regular bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Within domestic cricket, Basil Thampi plays for Kerala and often helps the team win with his excellent Yorkers. His latest domestic match was between KCA Royals and KCA Panthers, wherein he took two wickets for the Panthers with an economy of 7.50.
Early life
Basil Thampi was born in Ernakulam, Kerala to M.M. Thampi and Lizy Thampi on 11 September, 1993. Thampi had always had a passion for cricket and he fulfilled his dreams with hard work and determination.
The 27-year-old started playing for Kerala in domestic cricket back in 2015. He first joined the multi-billion dollars IPL Franchise back in 2017, when he was first recruited by Gujarat Lions. In 208, he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad and now continues to be a part of the same team.
In the upcoming IPL, 2021 from 9th April, Thampi will be representing Sunrisers Hyderabad as their fast bowler.

Thampi made his debut in domestic cricket for Kerala in February 2015, Ranji Trophy against Goa. In 2017, he was also a part of the T20 squad of India against Sri Lanka, however, he did not play. He was also a net-owner for India during the 2017 four-match test series against Australia.
In 2017, he was recruited by Gujarat Lions for a price of Rs.85 lakhs. During this season, i.e Thampi’s IPL Debut season he was named as the “Emerging player” and given the same award.
He started as an underdog for Gujarat lions but his ability to bowl at fast speeds of 140 kmph and deliver consistent yorkers got him much-deserved attention. While he started as an understudy, he ended the tournament as their main bowler.
In 2018, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad to play in the 2018 IPL. In July 2018 he became a part of the India blue squad for the Duleep Trophy. He was also a part of the same squad for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy.
