Early Life

Daniel Richard Sams was born on the 27th day of October, in the year 1992. Being born and brought up in a small town of Australia, Milperra in New South Wales, Sams has an inclination towards cricket from the very beginning. 

Sams completed his schooling at De La Salle College, which is a boy’s school, situated in Revesby Heights in Sydney. Much about his graduation and college/university life is not known. 

When he was 18, his dreams were transformed into reality, when he started playing for New South Wales under-19 matches in 2011. 

As Daniel turned 19, he became associated with the Randwick Petersham Cricket Club and has been playing for them ever since, as an all-rounder. 

His first-class cricket debut took place in 2017 when he played for Canterbury. 

 

Career

As mentioned earlier, Daniel Sams made his first-class debut for Canterbury in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season on 30 October 2017. In the same match, he scored 49 runs in the first innings and 88 in the second innings. Further, he successfully picked 3 wickets in his name. 

In the same year, he made his T20 debut for Sydney Sixers in the 2017 Big Bash League season, taking four wickets for fourteen runs, the best figures by a debutant in the tournament.

In September 2018, he made his List A debut for New South Wales in the 2018–19 JLT One-Day Cup, scored 62 runs, and took 3 wickets. 

Attributing his extraordinary performances, he was selected to play for the Vancouver Knights franchise team Global T20 Canada tournament, in June 2019. 

When playing for Sydney Thunder, he won the BKT Golden Arm award for taking the most wickets. 

In the following year, Sams was named in a 26-man preliminary squad of players to begin training for a possible tour to England following the coronavirus pandemic. The tour was confirmed after a month. 

In BBL 2019 tournament, Sams broke Kane Richardson’s record who took 24 wickets in the preceding tournament. 

Daniel Sams IPL career has been extremely hefty. Extraordinary teams like Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have been the sole beneficiaries of this young talent. For the 2020 Indian Premier League, he was picked by Delhi Capitals (replacing Jason Roy). In the current season of the Indian Premier League (2021), Delhi Capitals traded Daniel Sams with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sams was named in Australia’s squad for the limited-overs matches against India in October 2020. He made his T20I debut for Australia, against India, on 6 December 2020, in which he took a remarkable maiden international wicket in the form of Indian Captain, Virat Kohli. 

Following his excellent performance in BBL tournaments, Sams will be playing for Sydney Thunder until BBL 2022.
