IPL is known as the toughest T20 league ever and known as the hub of young and talented cricketers. In the IPL game players and franchises are awarded several awards but every year one award usually attracts cricket lovers and that is none other than the “Emerging Player of the Year” award. This award is usually given to the best young talent who impresses the IPL management team with his amazing ability, maturity, and performance throughout the season.

Initially, this award was best under 19 players, best under 23 player and then it changed to Rising Star of the year and best young player of the season in 2013 and 2014 but now it’s known as Emerging Player of the year.

This is a special award every young talent wants to win in IPL season. Today in this post we are going to list out players who have won the IPL emerging player award from 2008 to 2020. Hope you will like our post!

List of Emerging player award winners from 2008 to 2020   

 

1.Shreevats Goswami-2008 IPL season

Shreevats Goswami was the part of the 2008 under 19 world cup squad who become the emerging player in the 2008 IPL season. He was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore and performed well in that season. His crucial maiden half-century in the first IPL season showed his potential. However, Goswami failed to continue his good form and can play only 31 IPL matches from different franchises.

 

2.Rohit Sharma-2009 IPL season

Hitman Rohit Sharma is now the most successful player in IPL history and international cricket. After playing for Indian in the 2007 T20 world cup Deccan chargers franchise picked Rohit in their IPL squad. Though currently, this franchise is defunct in 2009 they are the Title winner under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist. Rohit was the key player of that season for Deccan Chargers and scored 362 runs and bagged the emerging player award. Then he included the Mumbai Indians squad and became captain. Now he won 5 IPL trophies for Mumbai Indians and known as the most successful captain in IPL history.

 

3.Saurabh Tiwari-2010 IPL season

2010 IPL season was the best season for Saurabh Tiwari. He is an explosive batsman who helped the Mumbai Indians to reach in the final of the 2010 IPL season with the help of 419 runs.  After his brilliant performance in IPL, he bagged the emerging award for the season 2010 and got a chance to play for the Indian national team. Unfortunately, he failed to replicate his amazing form and played just 3 ODIs. Currently, he is playing for Mumbai Indians as a backup player after Ishan Kishan replaced him with his amazing performance throughout the seasons.

4.Iqbal Abdulla-2011 IPL season

Iqbal Abdula becomes the emerging player in the 2011 IPL season after taking 16 crucial wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. This left-arm spinner showed his spinning magic and looked like a promising player. But unfortunately, Iqbal Abdulla failed to perfumed well after that season and can manage to pick more than 6 wickets in a single season. Later on, in 2017 he picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though in domestic cricket he is a consistent wicket-taker but he failed to place his name in the national team.

 

5.Mandeep Singh- 2012 IPL season

Mandeep Singh is no doubt one of the brightest young talents we have seen in the 2012 IPL season who smashed 432 runs for Kings XI Punjab currently known as Punjab Kings. He was the winner of the Emerging player award because of his exceptional performance in that IPL season. This right hander batsman is very good with a short selection and still playing in IPL from different franchises. After the first season, he was not so impressive and played only 3 T20 games for Indians in 2016. Currently, Mandeep is included in the Punjab Kings squad and playing as a middle order batsman under the leadership of KL Rahul.

 

6.Sanju Samson-2013 IPL season

We all know how talented is Sanju Samson. This wicket keeper batsman won the emerging player award in the 2013 IPL season for his exceptional talent and performance. He belongs to the Kerala cricket association and played for Rajasthan Royals since 2013. In every season you will find Sanju Samson in great batting touch and scored big fifties. That’s the reason in 2021 IPL, Rajasthan Royals team management declared Sanju Samson as the captain of the squad and he is the perfect replacement of Steve Smith who recently joined Delhi Capitals.

7.Axar Patel-2014 IPL season

Axar Patel was the winner of the emerging player award in 2014 IPL. He was included in Kings XI Punjab currently known as Punjab Kings in 2014 IPL and he took 17 wickets and surprised cricket lovers. No doubt he is a talented bowler and soon he included in the Indian national cricket team. Axar Patel is now a good all rounder now! Bowling and batting strengthen him a lot as a deserving player in any squad. Recently he debuted in a test match as the replacement of Jadeja and took 27 wickets in just 3 matches. He is now a crucial player for the Indian team and playing from Delhi capitals in IPL.

 

8.Shreyas Iyer-2015 IPL season

Shreyas Iyer was the winner of the 2015 IPL most emerging player award for his exceptional performance. Shreyas is a talented batsman and currently the most dependable middle order batsman in the Indian national cricket team squad. In the 2015 season he scored 439 runs total for Delhi Capitals and in the last three seasons, he crossed 400 plus runs and that’s the reason he is the current captain of Delhi Capitals. Though he injured and ruled out from the 2021 season but he is recovering well and definitely play for team Indian in upcoming matches.

9.Mustafizur Rahman-2016 IPL season

Musrafizur Rahman is the only non-Indian player who bagged the emerging player award in the history of IPL. In the 2016 IPL season this Bangladeshi pacer took 17 wickets with a tight economy of 6.90 and helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to win the IPL title. However, he was failed to perform well since that season, and currently, Rajasthan Royals picked him for the IPL season 2021.

 

10.Basil Thampi- 2017 IPL season

Basil Thami with 11 wickets in his maiden season won the emerging player awards in the 2017 IPL. No doubt this young and talented fast bowler impressed everyone with his pace bowling and perfect Yorkers. He was started his IPL career with Gujarat Lions in 2017 and currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. This fast bowler belongs to Kerala and no doubt you will see him become a good fast bowler in the upcoming days.

11.Rishab Pant -2018 IPL season

Rishab Pant is another talented cricket who is very popular nowadays among cricket fans. This young talented cricketer needs no introduction! He is currently playing for Delhi Capitals and las captaining Delhi capital team for 2021 IPL season. Pant was named as the emerging player award in the 2018 Indian premium league season. He hammered a total of 684 runs in this season and showed his true talents to cricket fans. Rather than white ball cricket, Rishab loves to play red ball cricket and he always performed well for Indian cricket team in red ball cricket. Recently because of special innings India successfully defeats Australia in their home ground.

 

12.Subhman Gill-2019 IPL season

Subhman Gill is another superb talent Indian got in recent days. Subhman was the emerging player award winner in the 2019 IPL season while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. Currently, he is the new opener for Indian national cricket team test squad who replaced the Mayank Agarwal. In 2019 IPL he smashed 440 runs for KKR and grab the attraction of selectors. This right-hander talented batsman also performed well in the Australia test series and played some crucial innings and help team Indian won the historic test series on Australian soil.

 

13.Devdutt Padikkal-2020 IPL season 

Devdutt Padikkal is another young talent who can represent the Indian national team in near future. He smashed 473 runs in the 2020 IPL season for Royal Challenger Bangalore and won the emerging player award because of his amazing performance. This left hander classy batsman looks technically sound and the ability to hit big sixes and no doubt he is going to a T20 specialist in the future. In Vijay Hazare Trophy he scored 4 consecutive hundred and showed his amazing form. This Kerala born cricket is a jewel for the Indian cricket team and skipper Virat Kohli always praise him as a talented young cricketer.
