Early life

Kartik Tyagi was born in Dhanura village, Hapur district to farmer Yogendra Tyagi and Nandini Tyagi, along with a younger sister. He belonged to a low income, agricultural family where his father vowed to never indulge him in the same labor-clad work that he was forced to do and decided to make a better life for his children and help them pursue their passion. Kartik completed his schooling from L N Public School in Hapur and is qualified till class 11th and never could pursue higher education. Although he was never interested in school or academics and found a profound fascination for sports. His father wanted him to pursue Shootball and worked hard to provide funds for his training and diet, but it was cricket that interested Kartik. He began playing cricket at the age of 12 years old. His father worked hard in the fields and accompanied him for his training sessions, cooked nutritious meals for him and supported him despite facing rejection and disappointment from their village and persistent financial issues. He even had to sell off his land to pay for Kartik’s training and expenses.

After showing an eager interest in cricket, Kartik was admitted to a cricket academy in Hapur in 2012 to begin his formal training, after which he was shifted to Meerut for better facilities and learning. Kartik’s career began when he qualified for the Under-14 Uttar Pradesh cricket team, two years after which he qualified in the Uttar Pradesh Senior Cricket team at the age of 16. It took up a rapid pace and his first breakthrough came with his First-Class debut for UP vs Railways in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy on Oct 6, 2017. He later made his List A debut for UP against Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Feb 5, 2018. Shortly after this in 2019, he got selected in the Indian team for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in South Africa, where he picked up 11 wickets in six matches.

After applying for the Indian Premier League with no results for three years, Rajasthan Royals signed Kartik in the IPL auction in 2019 for 1.3 cr, which began at the base price of only 20 lakhs, finally resulting in his Twenty20 debut for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians following which, he got signed in for the 2020-21 IPL as well. He was also selected as one of the four additional members to accompany the Indian Cricket team for their Australia tour and his international debut is much awaited.

Kartik Tyagi is an extremely talented bowler, and can swing the ball with both hands and effortlessly bowl at 145 kmph and above. He is also a very talented batsman despite bowling being his forte.

Personal life and interests

Kartik lived with his parents in the Dhanura village where he got his first training lessons with his father where he used sacks full of grain for weight training and practised in a makeshift cricket pitch and net made by his father.
