Career

Azhar started his international career on a high note, scoring 3 centuries during his first 3 tests. Azhar has been nicknamed the batting maestro, and his smooth strokes drew a great deal of attention. He made history with 156 catches in one-day internationals. He was by far the most effective Indian captain up to that time, having won 103 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 14 Test Matches. When he played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he was at his most prolific, slamming 5 tons in seven tests. He has won the Wisden Cricketer of the Year Award in 1991 during his prolific career.

 

His cricket profession came to a close in a manner that he did not expect. Upon being charged with match-fixing, his reputation came to an end in humiliation. In 2012, he was eventually exonerated of all allegations leveled at him. He is among the few cricketers in history to score hundreds in both their first and last test innings. He received a lifetime ban by BCCI dated 5 December 2000, while the other members were temporarily barred within the procedure. Although the high court of Andhra Pradesh suspended the ban because there was no proof, in particular, Azhar was too aged for a return, which is when his political career began.

 

In the 2009 Lok Sabha election, he entered the political arena and won the Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh’s constituency) elections. He is currently the President of Hyderabad Cricket Association and also the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.

In 1987 Azhar tied the knot with Naureen and graced with two children named Mohammed Asaduddin and Mohammed Ayazuddin. They filed for divorce, at last, then he headed to marry Sangeeta Bijlani, an Indian actress. Besides that, this association still lasted not long enough, and when he was accused of a relationship with Indian badminton star Jwala Gutta. Even Still Azhar says that Sangeeta Bijlani is married, so their marriage is now over. He was also rumored to have an Affair with Shannon Marie.

 

Notably, his children were dreaming of entering the world of cricketing. In 2018 the oldest son was picked for a Goa State team but his youngest son Ayazuddin passed away in a road crash in 2011.
