Riley Meredith is one of Australia’s most popular young cricketers, with a small but impeccable career that speaks for him. Riley is known for his consistent and fast bowling, and his capacity to work well under stress. Early life

Riley was born in Hobart, Tasmania in Australia to Patrick and Karen Meredith and he lived there with his parents and siblings, Morgan and Daniel. He completed his primary and secondary education and also played cricket alongside. He was fascinated by cricket and started playing at the young age of 9. Since then, he spent his time bettering his game, while also looking for backup career options. He worked as a tax officer before he went on to pursue cricket as his full time profession. He even suffered a serious injury that prevented him from playing for two years but Riley was determined to make a career in cricket.

By the time Riley got 16, he bagged himself a place in the Under-17 tournament where he played for State Team Tasmania against South Wales. He soon debuted in the Under-19 team for Tasmania and finally got selected into the Under-23 team. He made his List A debut in the Australian tour on 10th Jan, 2017 for Cricket Australia XI against Pakistan and went on to make his First Class debut the same year for team Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield Season 2017-18. His quick learning and sharp focus to improve his game made his career take off very rapidly and his talent was widely recognised by fans. Riley made his Twenty20 debut for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League Season on February 1, 2018 and showed amazing on field intelligence and skills. This led to his selection in the Australia Cricket Team for their tour to England which was disrupted by the onset of the ongoing pandemic. He was even named in the T20 squad of Australia and played against New Zealand, marking his international debut. 

In the 2021 players’ auction of the Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings spotted the talent of this young but enthusiastic Australian bowler and what began as the auction on the base price of 40 lakhs took a surprising turn and went up to 8 crores, resulting in Riley’s selection into Punjab Kings ahead of the 2021 IPL season. He played his first match for Punjab Kings against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on April 12, 2021, which made him a household name in India as well. Riley’s extremely sharp skills include consistently bowling at the pace of above 140 kmph and the ability to reverse swing. His fast bowling is what attracted Punjab Kings towards him. He also shows excellent batsmanship skills.
