Sam Curran was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire in the United Kingdom. His entire family has a shared passion for cricket. His father, Kevin Curran, was an International Zimbabwe Cricketer. Both his elder brothers, Tom Curran and Ben Curran are renowned cricketers as well. His family’s history with cricket made him appreciate the sport from a very young age and he developed a passion for cricket.
His family shifted to a farm in Rusape where he spent his entire childhood. They later transferred during the land reform period. Sam completed his primary education at Springvale House and his secondary education at Marondera. He later went on to study at St. George’s College and Wellington College in Berkshire to complete his higher studies.
Sam Curran began his career as a member of the Surrey County Cricket Club and got selected for the Under-15, Under-17, and Second 11 levels. He also got into Weybridge for the SCPD match. Sam made his international debut for the Under-13s match for Zimbabwe in the 2011 CSA match. Curran made his Twenty20 debut against team Kent in the NatWest T20 Blast Tournament on 19th June 2015. He made his First-Class debut against Kent in a County Championship on July 13, 2015. He is Surrey’s second youngest cricketer to play in a First-Class cricket match, debuting at age 17. His talent was spotted by Kings XI Punjab who signed him up in the players’ auction for the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League. He was signed up for 7.2 Cr INR, and his performance in the IPLs made KXIP win many matches. During one match in April 2019. Sam Curran became the youngest bowler to score a Hat-trick in an IPL match against Delhi Capitals. In the 2020 players’ auction for IPL, Delhi Capitals lost Sam to Chennai Super Kings after a heated auction, for 5.5Cr INR. He went on to play for CSK in the 2020 IPL season and was retained for the 2021 IPL season as well.
Curren represented England at the 2016 U-19s ICC Cricket World Cup. He also participated in the Trans-Tasman Tri-Series against Australia. He was a part of the One Day International for England against Australia on June 24, 2018. He played for England for the Test Series against India in 2018 and his performance won him the young cricketer of the year award.
