Sandeep Warrier IPL Career

Sandeep Warrier or Sankarankutty Sandeep Warrier is a 30-year-old Indian Cricketer. He is a right handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He majorly plays as a bowler but is also a renowned all-rounder.

He was born in Kerala but moved to Mumbai when he was young where he did his schooling. Later he moved back to Kerala and has played for the domestic teams and both Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Sandeep who plays for Kolkata knight Riders in the Indian Premier League has contracted the COVID-19 virus on May 3, 2021. He is currently in isolation and battling with the virus.

 

Early life

Sandeep warrier was born on April 4, 1991 in Thrissur, Kerala. He moved with his family to Mumbai at a young age and did his schooling there. He stayed in Mumbai till 10th standard and also played for his school team.

He became interested in playing cricket because of his father who was a huge fan of cricket. Watching his father enthusiastically enjoy cricket made him interested in pursuing the sport.

Sandeep became passionate about cricket in around 1998, 1999 when Sachin Tendulkar was at his peak form. When he moved back to Kerala he joined the club cricket and started to bowl.

Sandeep was always interested in bowling and always remained a fast-bowler. He considers fast-bowling as his natural reflex. 

Sandeep was also good in academics and felt like he wouldn’t really play cricket professionally. However his selections in the district and zonal teams made him immensely happy. He was destined to play cricket.

He is an engineering dropout.

After playing for Kerala in the under-17 team, Sandeep was chosen for the VIZZY trophy under the MG University and later for a cricket camp in Dharamshala organised by the Indian University, where he also met KL Rahul.

He made his first-class debut in 2012 against Goa. Sandeep was the leading wicket taker for Kerala in the 2018 Vijay Hazare trophy where he took 12 wickets in six matches. He was also the leading wicket taker in the 2019 Ranji trophy where he took 44 wickets in 10 matches.

Sandeep took a hat-trick in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy. In 2019 he was selected to be a part of India direct team squad 40 Twenty20 Duleep Trophy. In October 2019 he was chosen in India’s A squad for the Twenty20 Deodhar trophy.

Sandeep was among the five players who were suspended for three games in the 2018 Vijay Hazare trophy because they had shown dissent against Kerala’s then captain Sachin baby.

He was amongst the 12 players who had written a letter to the Kerala’s cricket administration stating disapproval with Sachin’s leadership. However instead of discussing it first with the captain or the manager on tour they directly approached the KCA.

In 2019 warrier shifted his base to Tamil Nadu due to this incident. He has told that he took this move on the advice of the famous southern player Dinesh Karthik.

He was called in to be a net-bowler for India during a match against England in Kochi. He bowled to Rohit Sharma, Jadeja and also KL Rahul. He did not bowl to Virat Kohli but impressed him immensely.

In 2013 Sandeep was chosen by RCB to play in the 2013 Indian Premier league after he impressed the franchise’s captain Virat Kohli. He was retained for three sessions but did not get a chance to play. In 2019 Kolkata Knight Riders choose him.

Sandeep Warrier 1.85 m or 6’1” tall. He weighs 77 kgs and his chest, waist and biceps measurements are 40 inches, 13 inches and 13 inches respectively. His eyes and hair or both jet black.

Personal life 

24 year was born on April 4, 1991 in Kerala. His father was a bank employee and his mother a homemaker. He became interested in playing cricket because of his father who was a huge fan of the game.

Sandeep’s zodiac sign is Aries and he is 30 years old. Sandeep is married to his long-term girlfriend Aarti. The couple tied the knot in 2019.

Sandeep Warrier considers the knuckle-bowl to be his speciality. After learning Pat Cummins had joined the KKR squad for the 2021 IPL season, he decided to learn as much as he could from the world’’s best.

Pat Cummins who had been in their vicinity is currently isolated and the scheduled IPL match with RCB has been postponed. Despite being in a bio-bubble that the administration has assured was safe, he has contracted the virus.
